The Color Witch (Color Climax)

Hurricane Sandy has provided a good time to be productive and work on some drawings. I am very excited about this piece, as I have been thinking of this project for some time. “The Color Witch” is a piece I would like to create in either a live action video or in an animation form, I’ve been debating for awhile on how to approach it. This drawing is a sketch for a pivotal scene in the narrative. In “The Color Witch” a white witch (me) is hunted down by evil blue gummy sharks. The witch, in defense goes into a state of levitation where she bursts and blooms into color, incinerating her foes, and herself. The piece works with themes of persecution, gender, resolve, self-doubt, and ultimately self-empowerment. These are archetypes and  ideas I’ve been interested in, for some time now. This drawing makes me feel like I would like to do an animation-drawing style approach to this piece, but we’ll see what happens!

I just finished this drawing today for a prize package for BEST COSTUME at a drag night I am cohosting on October 18th at Metropolitan Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I thought it would be fun to have an original halloween themed drawing by me in the package, along with drink tickets and whatever other fun items we throw in there. I hope this will provide some incentive for some awesome costumes! She is definitely feeling like an art nouveau dead girl.

I’m so excited to have finished this piece. Since I’ve started doing drag and my full-time job, I haven’t sat down to do as much work, so drawings have been a little slow-going. But when I started this piece, the pattern of hearts inspired a dress I wore for a show, so my art practice and drag performances really are interrelated. I feel the drawing captures the emotional weight, balance, and imbalance I’ve been experiencing these past couple of months.

I have donated work for the past few years, and am happy to be a part of the event again.  The event presents Eve Ensler Playwright and V-day Founder.

This is a recent drawing I made of roaches, flowers, and fire. I have been so busy with DRAG, that I haven’t had as much time to do other artwork. So I was really happy to get back to it and complete this piece. I’ve been wanting to do a roach drawing, bringing in elements of resilience and everlasting time.
